A young couple, Tony and Marie Amos are soon expecting a baby and Patsy leaves a home delivery pack for them. Tony gets into trouble however when he hooks up with a man in a public washroom – only to find it is a police sting. Charged with gross indecency, Tony soon finds himself not only in a court of law but also someone who is an outcast in the eyes of many. After the Rector’s wife breaks her ankle, Tom asks Trixie to to over organizing events for the Rose Queen contest. The nurses have to deal with an outbreak of dysentery and launch a campaign of basic sanitation like regular washing of hands. Phyllis meanwhile takes a particular interest in Dolores McEvoy, who lives in abject poverty and is too ashamed of her plight to seek any special help. As they can’t afford decent accommodation, she lives in a hostel with her two children while her husband scrapes together a living for them all.
